Police investigating a crash on SH1 near Tokoroa yesterday afternoon are now able to confirm that the three people who died (two women and one man) were American citizens.
A man, who was the fourth occupant in the car, remains in a critical condition in hospital. He is also an American citizen.
Police are currently liaising with family through the American Consulate. No further details on those killed will be released until Police are satisfied that all family notifications have been carried out.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing.
