Timaru Police are investigating a sexual assault that occurred around 12.20am on Thursday 25 January 2018.
Detective Senior Sergeant Richard Quested said an 18-year-old woman was walking alone on Pukaki Street when she was attacked by a male near the alley leading to Tekapo Street.
She has managed to fight the male off and escape, running towards Glenwood Avenue.
Police are providing her with support following the incident.
Police ask that anyone who saw or heard anything in the Pukaki Street, Glenwood Avenue area in the early hours of this morning to please contact Detective Matthew Kay at the Timaru Police Station on (03) 6879 853.
