Train incident in Te Kuiti

Police can confirm that they and additional emergency services are in attendance following a serious incident in Te Kuiti, south of Hamilton.

A pedestrian has been struck by a train as the train was passing through the Te Kuiti railway station at around 6pm this evening.  This person has died as a result of their injuries.  Police are providing support to the family at this time.

Police are continuing their initial enquires and as this is an on-going situation, there are no further details that can be provided at this time.

The railway line will be closed until further notice.
