Unexplained death in Waikato River - Update

Seeking sightings of black Subaru

Police can now confirm the name of the woman whose body was found in the Waikato River last night.

She has been identified as 23-year-old Beth Christina Winfield of Hamilton.

Police are continuing their enquiries and at this stage are still treating her death as unexplained.

Waikato Police would like to hear from anyone who has seen a black Subaru station wagon parked on the banks of the Waikato River on the afternoon of 19 October 2016. (Pictured)

The vehicle was parked in a reserve area on the river side of Ann Street, Hamilton.

Miss Winfield was believed to have been throwing a ball and playing with her two dogs on the river bank yesterday afternoon. 

Loud music was reported to have been coming from the vehicle throughout the afternoon.

Miss Winfield has later been found deceased in the Waikato river a short distance from the vehicle.

Waikato Police would like to pass on their sympathies to her family and friends at this difficult time.
