Update on brawl at KFC, Mangere

1 min read

Counties Manukau Police are continuing to investigate a brawl between a group of around 80 youths at KFC in Mangere yesterday evening.

Police received multiple calls to the restaurant from members of public at around 5pm. Units were dispatched from across the District and arrived quickly at the scene.

Following Police arrival a number of those involved dispersed however four people were arrested at the scene. The ages and charges are as follows:

- 17-year-old man charged with disorderly behaviour, possession of a knife and possession of an offensive weapon.
- 17-year-old man charged with disorderly behaviour and resisting arrest.
- Two 15-year-old boys were referred to Youth Aid.

Counties Manukau West Area Commander Jason Hewett says the matter is being investigated and Police cannot rule out the possibility that further people will be charged.

“This was appalling behaviour, especially given the presence of young children and elderly nearby. They were just trying to go about their business and this was a frightening experience for them.”

“We want to assure members of the Mangere community that we will be increasing patrols in the area, including around local schools,” says Mr Hewett

Police will continue today to retrieve CCTV footage and speak with witnesses. We ask any members of the public who may have footage of the incident to please contact Detective Sergeant Steve Nightingale on 09 261 1300. Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
