Victim of fatal crash near Greta Valley named

Canterbury Police are now able to name the victim of a fatal two-vehicle crash near the Omihi railway crossing south of Greta Valley on 18 February 2015 as 29 year old Ying-Hua Zhou from China. 

Mr Zhou was the driver and sole occupant of the white car which was reported to have crossed the centre line and collided with a stock truck heading in the opposite direction.  He was on holiday in New Zealand.

The death has been referred to the Coroner. 

A spokesperson for Mr Zhou’s family said  “We are extremely upset and appreciate the huge support from the local Chinese community, the Chinese Consulate and Canterbury Police during this extremely difficult time.”

Police investigations into the crash are continuing.
