Canterbury Police can now name the victim of a fatal two-vehicle crash at the junction of Jones Rd and Dawsons Rd in Templeton on 18 February as 66 year old Fu-Hwa Ju from Taiwan.  Mr Ju was a rear-seat passenger and had been wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash.  He was on holiday with some of his family.

The death has been referred to the Coroner.  Canterbury Police, Christchurch Hospital and the Taiwanese Consulate have been working with Mr Ju’s family and travelling companions who are extremely upset.

A 60 year old female who was a passenger in the same car has been discharged from hospital.

Witnesses reported that the vehicle Mr Ju was travelling in did not stop at the stop-sign controlled intersection before colliding with the vehicle travelling along Jones Road.

Police investigations into the crash are continuing and it is too early at this time to comment on whether any charges will be laid.
