Victim recovered near Rangitata River mouth named

Canterbury police are now able to name the woman whose body was recovered near the mouth of the Rangitata River on Saturday evening as 61 year old Jyoti Glenys Edith Lewis from Christchurch.

The matter has been referred to the Coroner.  The services of Victim Support have been offered to next of kin who are still in shock at the sudden loss of a valued friend and member of their family.

Her family would like to thank all those people who assisted in the search for her.

Ms Lewis was reported missing shortly before 6pm on Saturday (23 May 2015) when she did not return home from walking her dogs at the river mouth.   Canterbury Police SAR deployed a helicopter to conduct an aerial search.  Her body was located near to the shore a few kilometres north of the Rangitata River that evening and recovered by the Coastguard.
