Waikato Police looking to locate missing kayaker

At approximately 5.08pm today, Waikato Police were alerted to a man yelling for help while floating down the Waikato River on a blue and white kayak.

Police have responded and a boat was launched to try and locate the man. A short time later, the kayak was located by staff on the water however the male is yet to be found.

Police are continuing to search the immediate area, however there is a possibility the male has self-rescued himself from the river.

The man is described as wearing a black t-shirt, black shorts and is believed to be in his 20’s. He was not believed to be wearing lifejacket at the time.

Police are asking for the man, or anyone who knows where he is, to contact police directly on (07) 858 6200.

Police are also asking for any sightings of the man either on the water or in the immediate area.
