2 min read

Police are now able to release the names of the two men who went missing from the Wendy J on the West Coast late last week.

They are Kieran Lynch, 22, and Jay Cairney, 43, both from Greymouth.

The families of the two men have asked for privacy, but wish to share the statements below.

The man who was located on Saturday has asked for privacy while he continues to recover.

Statement from the family of Kieran Lynch:

The family of Kieran Lynch would like to thank Police and SAR Volunteers who are giving up their time and using their valuable knowledge.

We are very grateful for their continued efforts.

We would also like to pass our heartfelt condolences and thoughts to the Cairney family at this sad time.

We are still hopeful for the safe return of our loved and treasured Kieran.

Statement from the family of Jay Cairney:

Jay was a loving uncle to Jesse, Ebony, Holly, Tess, Jo, Zac, Brittany and Norton Cairney and loved life in all its capacity, generous to a fault.

He looked up to and loved his big brother Shaun and sister Jodi Cairney and loved all his family to the end of the world and back. He was also the life of the party, and a great uncle who would just love to spend time with all his nieces and nephews.

Jay was a very experienced fisherman and loved the sea, and always put anyone first before himself.

He's now with Mum and Dad (Linda and Tika) and looking down on us all with his cheeky grin saying 'right guys and girls party for me' so we will. Jay is so going to be missed by all who knew him, but everyone who knew him would know exactly what he would want us to do.

Love you always Jay, from us all.
