Witnesses sought after incident in Nelson

Nelson Bays Police investigating a report of sexual assault overnight in Nelson are keen to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the incident.

Police are especially interested in speaking with one man who assisted the victim.

The incident reportedly took place about 1.30am this morning, in a silver car parked in Buxton car park.

A 29-year-old man was arrested at the scene and has been charged with rape. He appeared in court today. 

CCTV footage shows another man, who is not believed to be connected to the incident, walking towards the parked car. The victim is seen getting out of the car and going towards the man.

Police believe this man helped the victim seek assistance at a nearby nightclub.

He is described as having a beard, and was wearing a blue denim jacket and a green cap.
