Welcome to the first Community Edition of Ten-One for 2005. We hope you had a relaxing and safe Christmas holiday.

This year we will continue to bring you the latest news about what police are doing in your community.

In this edition we take an in-depth look at NZ Police’s role in cleaning up after the Boxing Day tsunami that caused massive destruction along the coastline of several Asian countries.

National Road Policing Manager, Superintendent Steve Fitzgerald explains that the Christmas road toll – the lowest since the mid 1960s – may reflect a change in the attitude of drivers after years of pressure to drive within the law and to conditions.

And we profile six police staff who, along with many other New Zealanders, were recognised in the 2005 New Year Honours List.
