Commissioner looks to consolidate during term

Commissioner Rob Robinson says he feels privileged to have been appointed for a further two years.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Helen Clark late last year.

"The past few years have been challenging and there are a number of matters I would like to bring to conclusion," says Rob. "I would like to see the processes around serious allegations relating to past police conduct completed prior to the role passing to the next generation of leadership. Stewarding any changes that might be required following the current review of the 111 service, is another high priority for me."

Rob says he is proud of the way staff have risen to recent challenges and continued to focus on the job at hand. "The past few years have seen marked improvements in performance relating to crime and crash reduction," he says. "Successful outcomes have been achieved through a committed effort by operational staff, supported by an effective management team and professional work at all levels of the organisation.

"My deputies and I would like to consolidate the gains made and deliver further improvements. We are focusing on three key areas of development, which are service, capability and integrity. Working with talented and dedicated colleagues throughout police and engaging with a diverse range of people in the wider community, makes the job of Commissioner a satisfying, but equally humbling, experience. I look forward to working with you all and together facing the challenges of 2005."
