A scene examination has been completed by fire safety and police detectives at the address of 56A Bryant Road Karaka. A barn at that address had been extensively damaged by fire and the body of a male was found inside.
The examination has established that the cause of the fire was an electrical fault in a light fitting in the barn. The fire has progressed through the building.
It would appear that the deceased has gone to the building probably as a result of noticing the fire. He has entered the building and has died as a result of the fire a short time later.
The post-mortem has been completed. The findings are consistent with the scene examination. There are no suspicious circumstances.
The deceased has not yet been identified, a forensic dentist will examine the body on the 5th November 2009 with a view to a positive identification. The name will be released once a positive identification is made and family have been notified.
The matter will be referred to the coroner.
