Melling, Lower Hutt

Due to exceptionally heavy rainfall in the Tararua Ranges, Civil Defence are activating their emergency plan concerning the Hutt River.
As of 6am, Block Road, Melling is to be closed with the possibility that other roads will also be affected.
Additionally the Riverbank car park is closed. At this stage it is unknown whether it will open at all today.
With the start of peak traffic approaching, it is expected that road closures will cause some traffic issues. It is recommended that those needing to travel this morning leave either early or late so as to minimise congestion.
