Whitianga Police have arrested two people after a local café promptly reported a woman attempting to obtain money by falsely claiming that she had suffered food poisoning on an earlier visit.
The arrest followed similar reports from Thames on Friday. On those occasions a young woman had approached several cafes claiming that she had eaten there recently and gotten sick afterwards. Some businesses paid her a refund in cash. They later realised that they had been cheated but by the time they informed the Police the woman had left town.
The offending was featured in media reports on Saturday. A 26 year old Auckland woman has been arrested and will appear in the Thames District court next week cha
