12-year-old girl indecently assaulted in Johnsonville

At about 5pm on Wednesday 11 July 2007 a 12-year-old girl who was walking southbound on Bannister Avenue, Johnsonville, was indecently assaulted.

After the incident the attacker fled into the bottom field of Onslow College, says Detective Sergeant Martin Todd of Wellington Police.

Before the attack, the attacker was seen following the girl up Bannister Avenue from the vicinity of Kipling Street.

The suspect is described as:  • Male  • Maori or Polynesian  • 18 -20 years old  • Solid build  • Wearing a black jacket with a hood  • Shorts - despite the cold weather  • His hair had an orange tint to it

Detective Sergeant Todd is appealing to anyone in the Bannister Avenue/Kipling Street/Haumia Street area at the time to contact police if they saw a person fitting this description.

Police would also like to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area or who might know someone fitting the attacker's description.

The girl is recovering from her ordeal with the support of her family, says Detective Sergeant Todd.
