Kia Kaha

Everyone has a right to be safe - safe from other people and safe on the road.

Bullying is a problem for many young people. You need to remember that:

  • bullying is wrong
  • nobody deserves to be bullied
  • bullying is never the victim's fault
  • if you are being bullied, tell an adult you trust.

To find out more about bullying check out the No Bully website.

Your local Police Education Officer can also bring the programme Kia Kaha to your school. Ask your teacher about this.

Keeping Ourselves Safe

Child abuse is when another person, usually someone more powerful than you, mistreats you sexually, physically, mentally or emotionally - or when there is family violence at home.

You need to remember that:

  • child abuse is wrong
  • nobody deserves to be abused
  • child abuse must be stopped
  • if you are being abused, you must tell an adult you trust
  • if the first person you tell doesn't do anything to stop the abuse, keep on telling people until someone does.

Your local Police Education Officer can bring the programme Keeping Ourselves Safe to your school. Ask your teacher about this.

Keeping Safe

In Cyberspace

Young people can face risks when they are in cyberspace (online). For example they may be bullied by text or email or they may agree to a face-to-face meeting with someone they met on the net. This could be with a person who wants to harm them.

For more information check the Netsafe website .

On or near the Road

All young people need to learn to keep themselves safe when they are on or near the road, whether they are pedestrians, cyclists, skateboarders or learning to drive.
