Pacific Peoples Responsiveness Strategy 2002-2006 (summary)
November 2002
Summary
Outcome sought
- To reduce the rate of offending re-offending, victimisation and road trauma by Pacific peoples.
Purpose
Responsiveness talks to both what New Zealand Police (Police) do or need to do to reduce Pacific peoples’ offending, re-offending, victimisation and road trauma, and how well positioned Police are to do those things.
To this end the New Zealand Police Pacific Responsiveness Strategy (PPRS) ensures that policing initiatives and activities work towards reducing Pacific peoples’ offending, re-offending, victimisation and road trauma, and that the Police organisation is capable of delivering responsive outcomes for and with Pacific peoples.
Principles
The strategy and its implementation are guided by the following principles:
- Police supporting Pacific communities to recognise issues and develop their own solutions
- Police engaging Pacific communities to participate with us to achieve responsive outcomes
- co-ordination at all levels of the Police organisation to enable the most efficient and effective means of achieving the goals of the PPRS
- demonstrable commitment to achieving the outcome and objectives for the strategy will be evidenced throughout all levels of the Police organisation.
- responsiveness to Pacific peoples will be reflected in the delivery of all policing outputs including policy advice.
Goals
The PPRS focuses on two goals:
- Implementing effective and targeted initiatives for Pacific peoples within a policing context.
- Strengthening organisational capability and capacity to deliver responsive outcomes for and with Pacific communities
