Roles and entities exempt from secondhand dealers' licensing requirement

The following are not engaged in business as secondhand dealers when selling secondhand articles or scrap metal:

  • a licensed auctioneer selling secondhand articles and scrap metal at auction under the Auctioneers Act 1928;
  • a charitable or non-profit organisation (using the proceeds solely for the purpose of the organisation) and you do not purchase (or otherwise provide valuable consideration when acquiring) the articles;
  • an internet auction provider; or
  • an agent of the Crown.
