Statement of Intent (SOI) 2010/11 – 2012/13

The New Zealand Police's Statement of Intent (SOI) details the Government's outcomes and priorities that it expects of the Police. It explains how the NZ Police intends to meet the needs and expectations of New Zealanders and the Government during the next three years.

The SOI together with the Estimates of Appropriations (EoA) and Information Supporting the Estimates (ISE) are the major external financial and non-financial planning and strategic documents for Police required under the Public Finance Act 1989.

The Police seeks to provide and excellent policing service, prevent crime and road trauma, improve public safety, detect and bring offenders to account and maintain law and order.

The SOI emphasises that much of Police's contribution to achieving Safer Communities relies on Police working in partnership with other government agencies, private organisation, and individuals.

This year the content of the SOI differs slightly from previous years in that it includes a description of the impacts the Police seeks to achieve and the measures Police intends to take to monitor its progress towards achieving those measures.
