Police in Invercargill are investigating an alleged home invasion and stabbing in Mataura on Saturday 17th June.

At about 10pm, the victim was home at his Main Street address when an unknown male entered through an unlocked door and demanded money. The victim told the male that he did not have any money at which point the male stabbed him in the chest before leaving the address

The victim suffered a collapsed lung and was hospitalised for three days in a serious condition.

The male was described as:

Possibly of European descent, or Māori or Pacific Islander with a light complexion

  • 30-40 years
  • 178cm / 5’10”
  • Medium build
  • Three or four days of stubble
  • Wearing a grey hoodie

The victim described the male as having very dilated pupils along with bad body odour and bad breath.
