Police in Auckland are investigating an alleged sexual assault at the Grey Lynn Library on Great North Road during the early hours of Sunday 25th September 2016

At about 4:30am, the victim was walking along Hereford Street while working as a prostitute and has been approached by a male in a red van. He has offered her methamphetamine in exchange for a minor sex act.

She has got into the van with the male who has driven her to the carpark of the Grey Lynn Library where he has violently sexually assaulted her.

The male has then driven the victim to a friend’s address in New Windsor, stopping along the way at the intersection of St Judes St and Blockhouse Bay Road. Police believe he has only stopped, not to check on the victim who was badly injured, but because he was concerned about the amount of blood in the back of his van.

The male was described as:

  • Caucasian
  • Average build
  • Short light-brown hair

The van was described as a late-model van, ‘candy apple’ red in colour and possibly similar to a Nissan Caravan or Toyota Hiace. The van had a mattress and a green sheet in the back. The victim did not believe it was a tradesman’s van as it was in good condition.

The male used methamphetamine as ‘currency’ and Police believe this is a good clue to identifying him.
