Police in Henderson are investigating an alleged aggravated robbery of a cash in transit van at Glenmall in Glen Eden on Monday 30th October.

At about 2:50pm, two stolen vehicles – a black BMW and silver Toyota - have driven into the Glenmall car park and driven through to the Oates Road exit where the two drivers appear to have had a conversation. The black BMW has parked up and the silver Toyota has driven out on to Captain Scott Road.

At that time, a cash in transit van was parked out the front of a bank. As one of the guards was walking back to the van with a bag of cash, the other guard along with a number of other witnesses have seen the silver Toyota pull in front of the cash van at high speed. The security guard with the case bag has seen the man with a handgun and as he has run away, he has been pursued by the gunman. He has told the guard to stop or he will shoot so the guard has dropped the bag and continued running from the male.

The male has picked up the money bag and threatened other members of the public as he ran back to the silver Toyota, got in and driven at high speed out of the Oates Road car park exit. The black BMW has pulled closely in behind.

The male was described as:

  • Māori or Pacific Islander
  • 20s – early 30s
  • Approx 179cm / 5’10”
  • Medium-solid build

Wearing what appeared to be an ‘Oakland Raiders’ grey and black baseball cap, grey Nike shoes and a black bandanna across his face.

The movements of these stolen cars are vital to the investigation. The silver Toyota was stolen the morning of the robbery from Northcote Road and dumped just around the corner from the mall on Lucinda Pl.

The black BMW was stolen during an aggravated robbery on Eben Ave, Hillcrest on Thursday 12th October. It was then seen at Pearce Brothers car yard in Manukau on Wednesday 8th November, around the same time another vehicle was stolen. The black BMW was recovered by Police from Rising Place, Albany on Saturday 25th November where it had been for a number of days.

If this means anything to you, we urge you to contact Henderson Police.

Police are appealing for those seen in or near the vehicles of interest to come forward, or for anyone who recognises them to get in touch. Police are not saying they were involved in the robbery but they may have vital information.
