Police in Counties Manukau are investigating an alleged shooting in Flat Bush on Sunday 23rd April.

Just before midnight, the male victim and his female partner arrived home to observe an unknown male holding a blue push bike in a nearby construction site. This male, armed with a firearm, approached the victim and his partner and demanded the victim’s car keys.

The male has opened the firearm and shown the victims that it was loaded before demanding the car keys again and pointing the firearm at the partner’s face. She has pushed the gun out of the way and he has then pointed it at the victim and began counting down. He then shot the victim in the leg.

Fearing for his life, the victim threw his keys at the gunman before the victim’s father has intervened. The father has managed to get the keys from the gunman before barricading themselves inside and calling Police. The victim spent days in hospital recovering from his gunshot wounds.

The male was described as:

  • Māori or Pacific Islander
  • Early 20s
  • Approx. 179cm / 5’10”
  • Muscular build with a heavy gut hanging over his pants
  • Shaved head
  • Facial hair along his jawline
  • Wearing a white singlet with black writing at the front.

The firearm was described as a double-barrelled sawn-off shotgun. About 35-45cm in length with the barrels side-by-side
