Police in Palmerston North are investigating the alleged aggravated robbery of a male outside Cash Converters on Main St in Palmerston North on Thursday 3rd May.

At approximately 11.50am, a male employee of Cash Converters was walking towards the entrance of the store on his way back from a break when he was grabbed from behind by a male who proceeded to brandish a knife and demand he give up his bag. The victim has made attempts to hold on to the bag, but as he did this the male forcibly cut the bag out of his grip and took off down the street. At this point the victim has yelled out and another staff member from Cash Converters has run out of the store and after the male who has headed down Berrymans Lane onto Broadway Avenue before cutting through Regents Arcade onto King St and down another alleyway ending up on Grey St outside Steve’s Tyre Store.

It is here where the Cash Converters employee, along with a number of employees from Steve’s Tyre Service, has confronted the male and an altercation has ensued between him and the group. The male eventually drops the bag and presents the knife he was carrying at the group. The group backed off and the male took off down Ngata St towards Featherston St where he was last seen, Police believing he may have entered a vehicle to make his escape.

The male is described as:

  • Light-complexion
  • 5’6’’ / 168-170cm
  • Slim-medium build
  • Wearing a black baseball cap, dark sunglasses and a grey hoodie.

Police would like to hear from anyone who might recognise the male or who may have information that could help in their investigation.
