Police in Counties Manukau are investigating an alleged serious assault in Papatoetoe on Sunday 18th March.

At approximately 1:30am, the two male victims came across a group of unknown males on the corner of Great South Road and Kolmar Road. One of the group has blindsided one of the victims with a punch to the head followed by a second attacker punching the victim twice. It is at this point that the victim falls to the ground unconscious and continues to be punched and stomped on while some of the group chase the victim’s friend up Great South Road, who was at this point fearing for his life.

At least one male in the group has tried to help the unconscious victim before the main attacker has again stomped on the victim’s head. The group has then walked off leaving him with serious injuries that required surgery.

One of the main attackers can be seen in a nearby carpark changing his clothing in what Police believe is an attempt to avoid detection by attending officers.

Police have canvassed CCTV in the area and would like to speak with a number of people seen in the area prior to the assault. They’re not saying they are involved but they may have valuable information.

Counties Manukau Police would like to hear from anyone who might recognise the attackers or anyone in the wider group.
