Brochure offers driving tips for visitors
A handy
brochure providing driving tips to
visitors to New Zealand has been produced to coincide with the
influx of tourists for the British and Irish Lions tour.
Canterbury Road Policing Manager, Inspector Derek Erasmus was looking
for something to help with the large number of tourists expected.
Communications Manger, Lesley Wallis, provided the backing to develop
the idea into a national initiative using a number of other excellent
tourist information leaflets as a basis.
“There is a core of basic information that applies to all
visiting drivers but this brochure is designed for English speakers,
so
we were able to include more text than usual,” she says.
“The brochure provides visitors with information about what
to expect while driving on New Zealand roads – such as the
requirement to carry driver licences at all times while driving
and the strict
enforcement of speed limits,” says Lesley.
“It also includes some basic information on liquor bans and
general safety tips.”
Visitors can obtain the brochure from airports, ferry terminals,
rental car/campervan companies, police stations and officers. It
is also on the NZ
Police and British High Commission websites.
Lesley says feedback about the brochure has been very good and
it is intended that the brochure will available as an ongoing resource
for visitors.
