'Ed' on the mend
Hawke’s Bay police dog, Edge (Ed) stabbed by an offender on 6 June
is recovering well.
Ed was stabbed twice in the chest piercing his lungs and narrowly missing
his heart and major blood vessels.
“He’s doing really well,” says Ed’s handler,
Constable Dave Whyte. “He’s back to his old self and his
energy levels have really picked up.”
Ed had the luxury of being allowed to sleep inside during his initial
recovery but now he’s back outside in his kennel albeit with a
bed donated by a well-wisher. “Which he [Ed] refuses to give up!” says
Dave.
As Ten-One went to print, Ed was about to have his stitches out and
start a light exercise programme. Dave expects Ed will be back to work
in about two months.
Ed received three transfusions of greyhound blood and Dave is wondering
if he’ll be able to keep up with Ed once he recovers. “He’s
remarkable and it’s very, very lucky he wasn’t killed.” |
