Code of Conduct update

Work on developing a Code of Conduct for NZ Police is progressing, with recruitment of the team charged with making it happen expected to be complete in mid June.

Wayne Annan, General Manager HR, PNHQ, says a draft Code of Conduct has been prepared and has been consulted on.

“An Employment Relations team is being recruited to develop the policies and procedures and draft Regulations to enable the Code of Conduct to work,” says Wayne.

The new Regulations will go through a parliamentary process which is anticipated to occur around September this year, with a view to the Code coming into effect in early 2008.

Wayne says the Code will be based on principles of behaviour, rather than specifically defined offences or acts which prescribe what staff can and can’t do.

“During coming months, the team leading the Code of Conduct project will be working to inform police staff about what the new Code of Conduct means.”
