Police Manual Chapters
The New Zealand Police Manual comprises all instructions and guidance in chapters for administrative and operational aspects of policing, including nationally consistent standard operating principles, practices, policies and procedures (sometimes referred to broadly as ‘policy’).
The current policies are published on this website and are proactively disclosed by Police to provide transparency and openness. Please note, unless indicated otherwise, material linked from this webpage is protected by Crown copyright, but is licensed for re-use under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-ND). In essence, you are free to copy and distribute the material in any medium or format in unadapted form only, for non-commercial purposes only, as long as you attribute it to New Zealand Police and abide by the other license terms of CC BY-NC-ND.
For a small number of policies, some information has been redacted as Police considers disclosure would be likely to prejudice the maintenance of the law, including the prevention, investigation, and detection of offences, and the right to a fair trial. In determining availability, Police has been guided by the provisions of the Official Information Act 1982.
Police is likely to withhold the redacted information in response to a request made under the Official Information Act 1982. However, you are entitled to make such a request and may make it on our 'Request Information' page. It would assist Police’s consideration of your request if you stated the reason why you think the withholding ground may not be justified. We will then assess your request and respond within 20 working days.
