Collection events are being held around New Zealand during the amnesty and is the preferred way for people to hand in their newly prohibited firearms and parts.
Before going to a collection event, complete the online notification form. This will speed things up at collection events. Safety is very important – before coming to a collection event, remember to clear firearms of all ammunition and place firearms and parts in a safe carry bag, such as a firearms bag, or a nondescript cover.
When you come to a collection event, please bring the following with you:
- Your online notification reference number
- Your firearms licence (if applicable)
- Your bank account number
- Photo identification (drivers licence or passport)
- All your prohibited firearms and parts, cleared of all ammunition
- Any other firearm/s or parts you wish to hand-in to Police for destruction

You will find dates and locations on this page so you can hand-in your firearm/s and/or part/s for amnesty or buy-back.
Collection events are one of a number of channels for handing-in firearms and/or parts for buy-back or amnesty. Other options include bulk-picks if you have more than 10 items, or hand-ins at Police stations. If you do have more than 10 items, please select that option via the online notification form and Police will be in touch with you to arrange a suitable time to collect from your premise.
This area starts at Kaiwaka upwards to Cape Reinga.
Tāmaki Makaurau (updated 10 Dec)
Includes Waitemata, which begins at Mangawhai, Auckland City and Counties Manukau, down to Tuakau.
Waikato (updated 3 Dec)
Covers the area between Te Kauwhata in the north, Benneydale in the south.
Bay of Plenty (updated 6 Dec)
Covers the area from Katikati in the north, east to the tip of the East Cape and south past Turangi in the central North Island.
Eastern (updated 5 Dec)
Extends from near the tip of East Cape through to Porangahau in southern Hawkes Bay.
Central (updated 25 Nov)
Covers an area that stretches from the North Taranaki Bight, across to Ruapehu, south to Otaki in the west, and across to the Tararua ranges in the east.
Wellington (updated 25 Nov)
Covers the southern part of the North Island. Its northern border stretches from Peka Peka on the Kapiti Coast, across the Hutt Valley and over the Tararua Ranges to the Wairarapa. It also includes the Chatham Islands.
Tasman (updated 7 Nov)
Covers Nelson, West Coast (includes Haast) and Marlborough areas, (including Kaikoura).
Canterbury (updated 3 Dec)
Starts at the eastern side of the Southern Alps from Hanmer Springs across to Christchurch City and down to Waimate.
Southern (updated 28 Nov)
Starting at Omarama down to Stewart Island.
