Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Oxnam, Porirua CIB, says a female staff member had just closed up about 5pm when she was approached by a masked man outside the shop.

&#34She was threatened with a firearm and was forced to unlock the shop, go back inside and remove a large amount of money,&#34 Detective Senior Sergeant Oxnam says.

The offender is described as a clean shaven male Maori, short hair, aged between 25 to 35 years, 5ft 4in to 5ft 5in tall and of stocky build.

He was wearing a black balaclava with two eye holes and a mouth hole, dark coloured long sleeved jersey and three-quarter pants, the colour of which is unknown.

&#34We’re keen to hear from anyone who was near the rear of Briscoes between 4.30pm and 5.30pm on Sunday night,&#34 Mr Oxnam says.

If you have information which could help the police inquiry, please contact Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Oxnam on tel 238 1422 or Detective Peter Middlemiss, tel 238 1448.

A police photofit is currently being prepared.
