Mt Cook: Two in hut lifted off

1 min read

The two climbers who first raised the alarm have been rescued from the de la Beche Hut on the Rudolf Glacier this afternoon.

Constable Brent SWANSON says that at 2pm there was a brief window in the weather and the helicopter managed to get to the hut and lift the two men to safety.

They were taken to Mt Cook and will probably make their way home this afternoon.

The weather at Mt Cook is reported to be very cold and snowing slightly. The two climbers on the Rudolf Glacier with the rescue team are sheltered. If there is no opening in the weather it is expected that they will have to spend another night on the glacier.
