An English tourist, badly beaten in an incident last Sunday morning, is slowly recovering.

The 34 year old is reported as being heavily sedated with his breathing assisted however his injuries are not believed to be life threatening says Constable John SWAINE.

"His face is heavily bruised and he has black eyes but there do not appear to be any fractures," he says. " Internally though he has a lacerated liver, bleeding around his kidneys and a partially collapsed lung."

The incident occurred at about 4.30am in the early hours of Sunday morning, 23 November, at the KOT Ugly club on Lichfield Street, near Manchester Street. (Note NOT on the Strip).

The victim is a 34 year old UK resident who has been living in London and working in the IT industry.

He had only arrived in New Zealand on 20 November after travelling overland through Russia, Mongolia and Vietnam.

Constable SWAINE says that there has been a good response from the public but he would still like anyone who witnessed the incident , was in that area on Sunday morning, or has any information about assault, to contact him on phone 363 7487.
