Beware of scam letters

1 min read

IF IT SEEMS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE - IT PROBABLY IS

A new spate of `Nigerian’ scam letters is surfacing around Christchurch. However this time they are related to money from Zaire.

Detective Sergeant Dave HARVEY, Fraud Squad, says that it should be obvious to everyone that these letters are scams.

“You never get anything for nothing and this type of scam has been around for so long now I am amazed that anyone believes that they can make money from them. It is very foolish to give details of any bank account to someone you don’t know, especially when you can read in the media what has happened to others who have invested money in this type of scam. Only one person will make money - and it won’t be you.”

Police advise to only invest money with reputable people and businesses which can be checked out.
