Raumati traffic stop linked to Auckland burglary

1 min read

A car stopped for speeding in Raumati Beach this morning was stolen in a Ponsonby, Auckland, burglary last month.

Inspector John Spence, Kapiti Mana Area commander, says a strategic traffic unit officer spotted the vehicle in Rosetta Road this morning, travelling at 62kph in a 50kph area.

The driver has been arrested for driving while forbidden to do so, unlawfully taking a vehicle, and failing to appear in court. Two other people in the car have been charged with getting unlawfully into a vehicle.

All three, who come from Auckland, were to appear in the Porirua District Court this afternoon.

The driver has also been issued with a speeding infringement notice, and the car impounded.

"The result just shows the value of traffic stops and the linkages to suppressing crime," Inspector Spence says.

Inquiries are continuing in relation to the burglary.
