The man died on Aoraki Mt Cook yesterday has been identified as 22 year old Phillip William TOMS of Glen Innes, NSW, Australia.
Mr Toms is believed to have worked in the outdoor recreation retail industry.
He was part of a group four climbers attempting the classic Linda Route on Aoraki Mt Cook - up and down, when Mr Toms fell.
