Blessing in Glen Innes

1 min read

Local Kaumatua, senior Police officers, project managers, site workers and the Minister of Police will all be present in Glen Innes on Friday morning [May 21] for the blessing of the site for the new Police station.

Demolition of the previous station began last week and is scheduled for completion on Wednesday, May 19. Beca Carter Hollings and Ferner Ltd are the project managers and architects of the building, while Lawton Construction Ltd is the main contractor.

The site, on the corner of Line Rd and Taniwha St, will eventually be home to up to 60 Police staff by early next year. Over the construction period some staff are being housed in a re-locatable building on a car park next to the building site.

Officer in charge of the station, Senior Sergeant Terry van Dillen, said the move from the original site over the second weekend in May went very well and he and the nine staff remaining in the suburb are now comfortable in their new surroundings.

"We’re looking forward to what could be regarded as the first official ceremony on the new station site on Friday and welcome anyone who wants to view the proceedings at 9 o’clock," Mr van Dillen said.

"Of course, anyone who visits the site must comply with the safety management plan."

Police staff formerly domiciled in Glen Innes are already working from a variety of eastern area sites, including the St Heliers Community Constable’s office on Polygon Rd, the Panmure Community Constable’s office and the Mt Wellington Police Station.

Police services in and around the Glen Innes, St Heliers, Kohimarama, Panmure and Mission Bay suburbs will be maintained throughout the period of construction. The Youth Aid Section and the Youth Project are housed at the St Heliers Community Policing Centre.
