Arrests and charges over kidnapping and robbery

1 min read

A 20 year-old unemployed Ranui man has been arrested and will appear in the Auckland District Court later today to face charges of kidnapping, threatening to kill and aggravated robbery.

His arrest follows the Avondale CIB investigation into the alleged attack on 15 year-old Les Mills Jnr in Herne Bay on October 4.

Two other unemployed men – 17 year-old Steven Ackerley from Glen Eden and 21 year-old Luke Helwes from Laingholm – were arrested on November 17 and charged with receiving stolen property and theft.

Helwes pleaded guilty to the charges when he appeared in the Auckland District Court on November 22, where he was sentenced to community service.

Steven Ackerley was remanded on bail to reappear in Court on December 7.

Detective Sergeant Joe Aumua said the investigation into the complaint is ongoing and further arrests may follow.
