Wanganui Police launch homicide investigation

At about 10.31 a.m. on Friday, 7 January 2005, a member of the public advised Wanganui Police of a woman’s body located in the Wanganui River.

The scene is off Somme Parade, adjacent to Pitt Street, Wanganui.

The identity of the woman is Tania Rebecka McKENZIE, who should have celebrated her 20th birthday on Friday, 7 January 2005.

Tania was last seen at her place of employment, the Red Lion Hotel, Wanganui, around midnight.

The post-mortem is being conducted in Wellington around mid-day today.

The enquiry team is interested in any sightings of Tania on Friday, 7 January 2005 after 1 a.m. or any person who was in her company.

They are also very interested in any person who was in the vicinity of Pitt Street and Somme Parade after 1 a.m. on Friday, 7 January 2005.

The next media briefing will be at 5.30 p.m. today at the Wanganui Police Station.
