One escaped prisoner recaptured

Shannon Brent Flewellen, aged 25, was caught this morning at about 5.45am by Kaikoura Police.

He was apprehended after he tried to hitch a ride from a motorist about 24 km north of Kaikoura. The motorist alerted police, who picked him up as he tried to evade them near the railway line. He then gave himself up.

Flewellen, an unemployed boat painter of Nelson, will appear in the Blenheim Court this morning at 11am.

The other two men who escaped are still missing. They are Mark Cunningham, aged 34, a beneficiary of Nelson. He is described as a male Caucasian, 176cm tall, dyed blond hair, blue eyes, medium build, tattooed. Cunningham was remanded on three charges included burglary, robbery and injuring with intent to injure.

David Richard Parker is a 26yr old boat builder. He is described as a male Caucasian, 183cm tall, brown hair, blue eyes, medium build. He has been remanded on a number of charges.
