Porirua CIB has tonight released the name of an Elsdon woman who was fatally stabbed at Titahi Bay beach earlier today.

Susanna Lemina Brown, mother of five young children, died on her 33rd birthday. A 32-year-old Porirua East man has been arrested and charged with her murder. He will appear in the Porirua District Court at 10am tomorrow.

Detective Inspector Rod Drew, head of the Operation Beach inquiry, says a post mortem will be held in Wellington tomorrow morning.

Police are appealing for people who witnessed the stabbing at the northern end of Titahi Bay beach between 10.30am and 10.45am, or who saw a man and woman get into a gold metallic 1994 Mazda Familia car in Takapuwahia Drive between 10am and 10.30am to contact Porirua Police.

The car was removed from the beach tonight and placed in secure storage. Police and ESR scientists will examine it tomorrow.
