Man in coma after Tawa street attack

1 min read

A 27-year-old Asian man is in a drug induced coma at Wellington Hospital’s intensive care unit after he was viciously attacked on a public walkway in Linden, Tawa, last night.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Fabish, Porirua CIB, is appealing for witnesses to the attack which is believed to have happened on steps off the intersection of Main Road, Tawa and McLellan Street. The steps lead to Davidson Crescent.

"We don’t know how and when the attack happened as the victim is in a coma with serious head injuries," Detective Sergeant Fabish says. "We know that he lives in Wellington and was expected to visit his parents in Tawa last night but didn’t arrive.

"He was found bruised, bloodied and slumped on the steps at 7.15am today by a commuter walking to the train station. At this stage we don’t know if he was robbed or not."

Detective Sergeant Fabish is appealing for people to contact Porirua police if they saw any suspicious activity or people loitering in the steps area last night. He would also like to hear from other walkers or commuters who saw the victim on the steps this morning.

If you can help, please call Porirua Police, telephone 238 1400.
