Homicide inquiry in central Christchurch

Police have launched a homicide inquiry after the body of a 33 year old Christchurch man was discovered last night at midnight near the intersection of Manchester and Kilmore Streets.

The inquiry is still in the early stages says O/C Inquiry, Detective Inspector Malcolm Johnston. "A post mortem is being held this morning to determine cause of death."

Anyone who was in the area of Manchester and Kilmore Streets just before midnight or who may have information is asked to contact Christchurch Police.

There are currently around 30 staff plus specialist police groups such as photography and Specialist search teams involved.

The roads around Kilmore/ Manchester intersection are closed and are likely to remain so until later today. Anyone planning to drive in this area should make allowance for this.

Peterborough/Kilmore
Peterborough/ Manchester
Cambridge Tce/ Manchester
Kilmore Manchester

Residents are able to leave their properties but are still unable to return.
