German tourist dies in Arthurs Pass area.

A german tourist died near Arthurs Pass last weekend.

He was Dieter KNOBLICH aged 39 of Munich.

Mr Knoblich's body was discovered by searchers about 1.30pm on Saturday afternoon at the bottom of a gorge at the top of Bridal Veil Creek.

He had gone on a day tramp on Friday 8 April and was reported overdue by a fellow backpacker on Saturday morning. A helicopter and local searchers took part.

Mr Knoblich was travelling alone and is believed to have been in New Zealand since early March.
