The name of the woman whose body was found in Christchurch early yesterday morning has still not been released as her next of kin are still to be informed.

"The homicide investigation is following various lines of inquiry," says Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Harvey. "We have had a good response from the public and area inquiries."

The area inquiries include nearby hotels. Anyone who is or was staying at the George Hotel on Park Terrace or Chateau Blanc can approach police directly to give contact details but the inquiry team will also be contacting people through hotel records in due course.

There are currently about 25 staff on the inquiry, many involved with area inquiries today. Two more staff are expected from Timaru later this afternoon.

Cars remaining on Peterborough Street may now be uplifted. Owners should present themselves with some form of identification to the police caravan on Peterborough Street.
