Young woman assaulted

1 min read

Early this morning a young woman was indecently assaulted as she walked home after working in the city.

The 19 year old bar worker had finished a late shift and between 4-5am walked along Ferry Road on her way home.

She turned into Nursery Road but as she approached Cross Street, she was grabbed by a male offender who pushed her to the ground. He has kissed her but she has struggled to free herself and managed to push him away. The offender has run off.

During the attack a cyclist rode down Nursery Road and it's believed that this may have disturbed the offender.

"We are very interested in hearing from the cyclist and any person in the area who may have heard or seen anything at this time," says Detective Greg Brand. "We are treating this incident very seriously."

The alleged offender is described as about 180 cm tall,(about 5'11"), of medium build, with short hair, about a no 2 cut.

Any information please to Detective Greg Brand, CCI 2, phone 363 7469.
