Police complete inquiry into Blumsky injuries

1 min read

Wellington Police say it is unclear how or why Mark Blumsky, the National Party candidate for Wellington Central, received his recent facial injuries.

Bar staff locking up premises early on Saturday, 23 July, found Mr Blumsky lying hurt with nasty facial injuries in the stairwell leading to his apartment. The stairwell is shared by a bar, Mr Blumsky's apartment and other business premises.

Detective Senior Sergeant Simon Perry, Wellington CIB, says police have concluded their investigation. Officers have talked with many people including Mr Blumsky, friends he had been socialising with, bar staff who found him and people who had spoken to him during the evening.

"We're satisfied that whatever happened took place in the stairwell but whether Mr Blumsky was assaulted, pushed or fell may never be known," Detective Senior Sergeant Simon Perry says.

"Security footage from the bar does not cover the stairwell and was unable to help us.

"We're unable to take the matter any further."

Detective Senior Sergeant Perry says the investigation outcome has been communicated to Mr Blumsky through his campaign manager David Farrar.
