Man's death still mysterious

1 min read

Auckland City Police are maintaining cordons around Western Springs Park where the body of a man was found floating in the park's lake this morning.

The man - an unidentified Caucasian - has undergone a post-mortem examination and, though it's believed he drowned, Police don't know how he came to be in the lake.

Members of the public are asked to stay away from the park while Police search for clues that might help identify him and provide some indication about where he went into the lake.

Detective Sergeant Brett Batty said the man was not carrying any identification and Police would like to hear from anyone who might have seen or heard anything suspicious in or around the park overnight or this morning.

"Until we know otherwise, we'll treat this man's death as suspicious," Mr Batty said.

"We are obviously keen to identify him too so would appeal to anyone who thinks they know who he might be, to call and share that information with us."
